Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials constitute one of the most advanced research targets in materials science and engineering this century. Among various methods for synthesis 2D nanomaterials, including top-down exfoliation bottom-up crystal growth, chemical has been widely used to yield monolayers layered compounds, such as clay minerals, transition metal chalcogenides (TMDCs), oxides, long before discovery graphene. Soft is a technique weaken layer-to-layer interaction compounds by modification interlayer galleries, which promotes monolayer exfoliation. The process using organic substances, typically amines, applied range oxides hydroxides two decades, establishing high-yield into their highly crystalline colloidal integration processes have developed assemble resultant well-organized nanoscale devices. Recently, strategy was found be effective TMDC MXene nanosheets, expanding lineup functionalities solution-processed nanomaterial devices from dielectrics, optics, magnetics, semiconductors superconductors. Throughout review, we share historical flow, recent progress, prospects development soft-chemical exfoliation, integration, thin film applications TMDC, nanosheets.
